It is the same prep as for the paper. City of London girls offer no scholarships for academia only art, drama and music but are worth a nominal amount. I don't know about the boys school. If fees are an issue you might want to look at bursaries. The city ones for girls are very generous.

Prada, many thanks for your comments. Many congratulations to your DD. Are you looking for scholarship as well?

Only music. The girls level for CLGS music scholarship is minimum G6 on your first study. Open days are still ongoing so you might find more info on the other types of awards.

Good luck!

Mine is boy. Should be ok for music. Just wonder what is the standard of academic scholarship. As we are out of the band of bursuary but too difficult for full fee.

I can't advise on any boys schools but you might be be surprised at the level of income that qualifies for a bursary in London for example SPGS gives a rough guide of £110k obviously if you have other assets you would not qualify but if you don't you might be able to claim assistance. Generally for the most academic schools you will not have academic scholarships.

CLSB set the line of 45k if I haven't made silly mistake. Only can try scholarship route.Sad

The CLGS school refers to assistance up to £50k of disposable income not earned.

Depends where he is coming from. Clearly will need much more prep if coming from state than from a prep school.

I don't think this statement is true necessarily. My daughter from a state primary had less than 8 sessions of weekly tutoring and passed all the selective entrance tests. The independent school head told me that they can't tell any difference between those who went to preps and state. From our large ordinary state primary every child except one (out of 20 children) who applied to independents got in. The prep schools published outcomes show success rates of 1/2. Having said that, every scholar (not bursary) is a child from a prep. I know quite a few academic scholars and all have been hothoused from a young age.

Pre-preps that go to 7 will have been preparing children from the beginning of year 1, and will have had their eyes on the 7+ from reception. It seems unlikely that a child who has been to a normal school without this help is, on average, going to do as well unless they are extremely bright - which maybe your daughter is. But, on average, if you come from a state school you will have had much less (if any) 7+ related input than someone coming from a pre-prep.

If a scholarship is vital, and you fancy CLS, you should also consider Forest. Forest is a little further out in Walthamstow. They are not as academically high flying (ranked in the top 100, not the top 50), but they have a very generous scholarship pot. They give out multiple 50% each year, and have additional scholarships for music. They aren't quite CLS, but they send children to Oxbridge, Med School, and Vet school every year and have a big music department. I know boys with scholarships at CLS, but I think the competition is stiff, so you might need a few back up options.
