best area to locate to close to Ashtead school

We have got places in a school in Ashtead (CLFS) starting next year and are looking to relocate to an area which is not too far for my DD to commute to school as she is very young. Ideally a less than 20 min school run.
However, hubby will be working at Canary wharf.

so what is our best options? from Ashtead it takes 1.10mins per google maps..any chance to lessen the commute but still be close to school ..what areas should we look at?

Three things:

  1. 1hr 10min is a pretty reasonable commuting time, with only one change. And DH is very likely to get a seat in the morning from Ashtead.
  2. Housing is not cheap in Ashtead - how do you expect DD to get to school: Walk? in mother's car?
  3. Where are you living now, and why is it not suitable?

hi bluebonnie, thanks for your reply. we are relocating from overseas, so will need to look at areas to locate to.

happy to drive her to school but was hoping for a less than 20min drive and have heard that the traffic during peak time is crazy..

Not 100% sure re the commute time - just googled it up. Would be great if some one can confirm it.
Surbiton seems to be only 30mins to canary wharf - would this is a feasible location for school.

A journey that takes 20 minutes at midday could take up to 45 minutes at 8 in the morning. I'd have thought that driving from Surbiton to Ashtead would be a bit grim - especially as people will be driving that way to get onto the M25.

If it was my choice, I'd try to limit the car journey to five,or six miles.
Use Rightmove to look at house prices within five (or maybe ten) miles of Ashtead.

Look at National Rail's journey planner to suss out the train routes and journey times to Canary Wharf. Journey time from Surbiton to Canary Wharf is 45-55 minutes. You just can't tell how stressful these journeys are until you try them at peak times.

Epsom - about 1 hr to Canary Wharf?

How old is your DD? Would you be willing to let her travel on one of the school buses?

Driving Surbiton-Ashstead will take 45mins+ at 8am. Not fun.

Epsom would work as MM says -DH commutes from here to CW every day and it takes just over the hour from the station to his office. Driving to CLFS would take 15-20 minutes in the morning, less at 3.30.

Driving from Surbiton to Ashtead would tale ages at school run time. I would look at Epsom too.

Surbiton too far with traffic. Epsom much closer (trains to Waterloo or London Bridge).

Why not just live near to the school, it's quite a nice area? Not far to a station such as Ashtead and into Waterloo from there and Jubilee line to Canary Wharf. I know a couple of people do the same, one of them lives just a minutes walk to school.
