Apologies if this has been covered a thousand times before - My dds school keeps advertising for a new governor and I'm quite keen to apply. I've completed the application etc but I have to enclose a max 100 worded cv to be circulated should it need to go to election.

Have you done this? What sort of things did you put? As a school governor what duties have you performed?

ANy advice greatly received.

Yes I am a school governor.

Just write who you are, what you do and why you want to be a school governor. I put something like "because it is in the children's interests if parents and school work closely together". That sort of thing!

Duties are mostly going to meetings, one or two full governing body meetings per term, plus meetings of committees I'm on (also generally once or twice per term). I've also had to complete a short training course and been to a few external meetings with the headteacher as representative of the governing body.

I have to warn you: if you become a school governor you'll be getting loads of paperwork!

Hope that helps!

I am one, and exactly what Butternut Squash says. It is immensely rewarding, especially if you are prepared to volunteer for working parties etc, but you can just go to governing body and committee meetings if you want.
As regards the statement, I just put that I was keen to support the work of the school and help promote communications between parents and school kind of thing.
