My partner's dd is 6, and struggling at school (medium sized independent prep). She's able to read fluently but is finding spelling very hard and struggles with maths. The school has recommended an ed psych assessment and given us a couple of names but I wondered who people in the Dulwich/Clapham/Streatham Battersea/Wandsworth area would recommend. Needs to be quite gentle and engaging, I think - dd is desperately shy and hates being asked to interact with strangers.

This web site may be of help:

www.patoss-dyslexia.org/SupportAdvice/TutorAssessorIndex/

If you put your postcode in it will list qualified professionals in your area (along with their qualifications). You will also find specialist tutors to help if it is dyslexia/dyspraxia.

I would suggest you contact the Bloomfield Learning Centre at London Bridge.

We used one near Shepherd's Bush if that is any help.

The prep should be able to tell you the names of EP's other students at the school have used. You need to think about what you want to achieve from the report, and whether you prefer one which is heavily scientific (jargon risk) or more intuitive (fluffy risk). A good prep will be able to tell you where any given EP is likely to fall on that spectrum, if they have seen the reports before.
