could anyone give me advise how to find an affordable good tutor to prepare my son (year 4) to 11+exam to enter Grammar school? Or maybe someone knows does any tutor take the trial exam? thanks

Do you mean Latymer and QEB? You'd need to find a tutor that specialises as lots of tutors are more general or for the privates (i.e. comprehension, maths etc rather than CEM). Look at elevenplusexams.co.uk, they might have some pointers. There are also mock exams advertised on there but more for end of y5 than at this stage.

My advice: there are plenty of tutors who do a one-off assessment of where your child is. Then, get him onto one of these 11+ courses (I think elevenplusforum hosts courses in Harrow). Then an intensive course in the summer of year 5. If the tutor tells you it is going to be difficult, then maybe leave it. You don't want your son struggling throughout senior school right?

I have a brilliant daughter and a less brilliant son. Daughter passed the grammar and independent school exams without any problem. Son, who is younger, would only pass with lots and lots of tutoring which I don't want to do. So, local comprehensive or a less academic independent will be the choice for him. I am sure they will do equally well in life.

Good luck!
