How many teachers have been attacked / threatened by students?

I've been thinking about this a lot over the last few days in light of the sentencing for the murder of Mrs Maguire. I've namechanged for obvious reasons but am a regular - Reasties xmas threads mainly

In my small school this year so far

• teacher's arm jammed in a door. Student made to write a note of apology
  

-male staff member had to deflect a punch from student. Staff member interviewed by manager for use of force. No comeback on student
-student threatened to nut a teacher. Approached teacher looking like he was going to do it. Student suspended for 2 days then back into class
-teachers told to fuck off / called cunts etc regularly

a long time ago, when i was teaching, secondary school
yr8 walked through my arm which was already injured. The pain and wound reopening means i still have the scar.
same year group put thumbtacks on my chair which i sat on.
needless to say, nothing happened. for the later, the whole class got a detention, but thats it. nada.
My then 3 yo ds was also threatened. But I chose to believe it wasn't a real threat.

I've been threatened quite a few times and been told 'my dads going to kill your family'. I've also taken my fair share of punches and kicks (although not hard) that have been brushed over by SM once being told that it wouldn't have happened if I had a proper 'bond' with said child

Most if these have been from 2 or 3 children I've taught.

I'm primary btw, mainly year 2.

Management are quick to blame staff aren't they kitty

I was told 'fuck off you ugly cunt' for telling a student to turn off his phone yesterday.

Have been relatively lucky. Have been kicked and had a chair thrown towards me. Have also been told to 'fuck off you big fuck'.

I'm ks1 though, would imagine it's worse higher up.

We've had parents in kicking off and throwing chairs around too.

Many, many times but the worst ever happened to a colleague.
A 16 yr old boy threatened to rape my colleagues baby.
He did not get expelled.

DH is a primary teacher, year 4 mainly. He has had a chair thrown at him, a table shoved into him, been 'tripped up' and been threatened many times.

At one school where he taught, a mother headbutted then kneed a male teacher, causing a testicular torsion and the loss of one testicle. This was because the teacher told the boy to stop graffiting the desk.

It's the lack of support from (the ever-growing numbers of) SMT when these situations happen that pisses me off. The implication that you somehow bought it on yourself!

Nothing is taken seriously rollon a student told a manager that another boy sometimes brings a knife in his bag. The manager did nothing - in the end a pregnant teacher challenged the boy, took the knife from his bag and called home.

Have been told to fuck off and had things thrown by children,they were children with recognised disorders or horrible home lives.

I've been screamed at by one or two adults which has been far worse. One mother was a regular screamer and wasn't even all that fussy about getting the 'right' teacher. Any passing teacher would do

However,I was verbally attacked by a huge,terrifying mother a couple of years ago. I had asked her son to stop doing something he shouldn't and choose another activity instead.She screamed and screamed personal abuse at me and I thought she might physically attack me. I haven't entirely got over that incident.

Also a parent was asked to apologise to me once because she swore at me in front of a load of children- again it was over minor stuff.

One male teacher was verbally threatened with violence by a father- he had repremanded the child for something or other,nothing unreasonable.

a TA who was badly injured after breaking up a fight between two yr 6 boys. Didn't really help her to be told that she shouldn't have got involved.

Been punched by accident but still it was a fight and it was vicious - upsetting.

Accent made fun of
Had sixthformers mocking me saying 'mofo' under breath amongst other things

I had one complain I wasnt teaching 'the class' properly - I was devastated - I was reviewed and felt constantly on back foot. Mostly got A/B grades he got an E in the next module. This student had a few problems but I feel was never held to account for making such allegations - other students came to me and said they didnt feel the same way. Head of sixth form spineless - Mother on governors - says it all. The stress was awful - this continued with his GF complaining about my teaching in another subject. I had some of the best results in the school at A-level - this kid spread posion and it was far more damaging for and the general morale and reputation of department as an option subject than any of the above.

Eventually the following year the did an intervention - got all his teachers in the same room to confront him for the lack of work that current year - I was still seething about the previous years pandering - I felt like walking out. Far too late.

Had a coat stolen - not followed up, by sixthformers

Worse is being undermined by other staff members - my last school had a hidden pecking order - I felt a complete non person at times.

Told to fuck off several times, once asked to 'suck my cock miss', hit with a thrown sandwich ... And I teach at a naice school!!

Oh my god I'm absolutely appalled
I was scared of some teachers at school as they'd give you a telling off (I'm 33). Really shocking how some people behave

We have no policy on intervention or restraint but we're always told we shouldn't have... (whatever we did)

I can't imagine many adults would stand by and allow children to injure each other.

I had a pupil (13 year old) shove my desk into my bump when pregnant. It was with force and intended to cause me harm. He was overheard the next day boasting "I've killed Miss Trampoline's baby"

The punishment? Litter picking.

I had to have scans and all sorts in case he had seriously injured me or my baby. Thank goodness all was ok but I've never forgotten it.

I had to teach him on my return to the school, while still pregnant, as well.

Some children aren't being taught today (well - not by me, their teacher) and I'm sorry for that but I just couldn't face it.

Has something just happened to make you feel like this?

I'm only part time at the moment and that's the only way I can do it. If I had to do it full time, I think I'd make myself very ill. The thought of my (non-existent because I've been part/time for so long, pension) makes me think I'm either going to have to go back up to full time for years to ever be able to retire, or just carry on with pt and never be able to. On the bright side, I often think, I'll probably be dead long before the age of 67.

I have never wanted to do another job; I've wanted to teach since I was 6 or 7. I'm just the sort of '2.1 graduate from an excellent university/Outstanding in every observation' teacher I'd want teaching my children, but I feel sick every time I think about going in. I hate what it's become.

Yes - I was pinned against a wall and threatened recently. I was meant to be teaching the student today and I just can't do it.

Management have done fuck all and union have advised me to go off.
I've always had good results / observations etc. Behaviour recently and the ineffective management has seriously knocked my confidence lately.
