How much Games/PE is timetabled at your childs school?

Hi Mumsnetters I would like know how much time is timetabled for Games/PE on average per a week. Interested in indie and state looking to see if it is worth the fees at an indie school? Thanks

Four hours a fortnight. The timetabling at DD's school is a bit wonky so she does three hours one week and one hour the next.

At ds prep it's one double lesson of games, 1 double lesson of PE plus swimming

Dd doesn't do PE as she goes to a dance school.

How long is a double lesson?

At ds prep, it is one double lesson of games, one single lesson of PE and one swimming lesson in the timetable. Then ds does cricket club one lunchtime, football club after Sch, running club before Sch and swimming club after Sch.

state primary in a rural location .
2x approx 1 hour slots in a week. plus a bit more in summer when the field is dry. they also use outdoor space in other lessons and run some very successfully sports teams from extra curricular clubs. All year groups take part in multi school sports events arranged by local secondary school.

Too much Grin.

They do 5 hours a fortnight, but as it is compulsory to take an exam (GCSE or BTEC) some of this is theory (right from year 7).

I'm sure there is a plan, but the balance between theory and exercise seems pretty random from my DC's (and my) perspective.

Small indie, 2 sessions of PE/games a week, plus a swimming lesson from Y2.

Indie senior school - Y7 DS has 4x35min lessons a week. these are arranged as 2 double lessons, one of games (eg rugby, cricket, hockey) and one of PE (eg swimming, gym, fitness, badminton, table tennis)

State primary - Y5 DD has two sessions a week, one indoor and one outdoor (weather permitting). I have yet to work out how long each session is, and either can be cancelled if eg hall is being used for something else. They don't do swimming ever Angry

Dd's independent primary has 2 PE lessons plus one double period of games per week. On top of that she does hockey/netball/cricket (depending on season), swimming squad and football so about 6 hours in total

Mine is the same as UniS - rural primary school, 2 x 1 hour per week, plus extra sports with other schools throughout the school year. They also have swimming twice a year - 1 lesson a day over the week, if that makes sense.

Just let me consult the school timetable........1 hr once a week but it also says music on the same slot Confused so I'm guessing they change at some point during the term. Swimming for 1 hr/week for 1 term/year.

london prep - 2 games afternoons, one pe lesson plus extra rugby, hockey, cross country, swim squad and basketball practice either at lunch or after school (plus clubs at home). not enough for my dc according to them but at least they are too knackered to get into trouble.

At our Prep school we have over 9 hours of sport during the school day plus after school sport. We have more sport than maths and English combined which is ridiculous.

3 X games

2 X P.E

1 X Swimming

Per week.

I dont know any other school that has this much sport.

2 times a week in the school day - which is shorter than independents. Opportunities for: Tennis, Athletics, Football, Rugby, Cricket, Rounders, Hockey and Netball; after school for free. Also daily runs (in school day). Also sometimes Kayaking, Dodgeball, Swimming (extra to lessons in school), cheerleading, dance, etc.
Lots of children belong to local sports clubs or do things like Horse-riding.
this is just for primary.

For secondary 2 hours a week in school unless studying for GCSE, even more after school clubs, mainly free. Even more students belong to after school clubs too.

State school gives more time (and money) for sport outside of school. Private schools give more time to sport in school, sometimes have more options of representing school at sport. If you want to compete at County level you may find school sports get in the way.

State comp - 2 x 1 hour of games and 2 x 1 hour of PE a fortnight.

Lots of additional sports available in lunchtime and after school clubs so ds does a further 2 hours of sport in school per week.

DD1's comp do a double lesson of games per week, a single lesson of PE and a single swimming lesson. A single lesson is 50 minutes and a double is 100 minutes. So total = 200 minutes per week or 3 hours 20 minutes. There are lots of sports clubs, but DD1 is not interested.

State primary

2 hours in curriculum
2 hours additional sports clubs after school (cost £5 each)

Unusually DS's school also has organised sports every lunchtime which is probably another 4 hours a week.

Surely not worth comparing random state with random indie - surely you compare the actual schools you like with each other.
