I've looked around both these schools for my dd going into yr 7 (senior). Looking around hasn't helped as they both look fine, the heads say all the right things - i don't know what i need to look for!! Does anyone have any recent info please?

My daughter is in year 8 at CHS is doing very well and absolutely loves it. We had a similar dilemma to you - she passed the exams for both and we found
it really difficult to chose between the 2. In the end we let her decide and
we have definitely made the right decision. The new(ish) head is very impressive and seems determined to drive the school forward not just academically but also in sport/arts and pastoral care etc.
I know for the current year 7 they were heavily oversubscribed so had
to introduce an extra yr 7 class.

Both schools like to fix their ofsteds....and thy do it well. frankly all you can do is try and see the specific staff in the areas she might like and make a judgment on whether shell get on with the teacher!

We had the same problem.. my DS passed both aswell as 3 others. We had a look round both and spoke to many friends. In the end we let DS decide and he picked Stockport..I think we felt SGS was a little more friendlier and open about the school but ultimately depends on the child. We are also putting our 3 year old DD into the Junior school. Headmaster seems nice and on the ball and has been there for many years. Whereas CHS has new headmistress and will take time to drive the school forward. Again we have friend's kids in both so hard decision!

Don't worry too much which she goes to smile

They're both very good schools, academically and sportswise (I think Cheadle might just edge it it on the music though, although that could just be the people I know).

This is going back a bit to when my DSis and I were at school, but every year about ten would go to Cheadle and Stockport. Some years there was a clear preference (my year was seven to CHS one to SGS, but the year after was eight to Sockport and two to Cheadle), but it always balanced out to about half and half over a couple of years, so there was no long-term preference for one or the other IYSWIM.

I went to CHS many years ago and now get the newsletters, and have made a visit to some reunion event. My impression of the new head is very positive. One of my friends has met her. The setting - lots of green space - is very attractive. The school was not independent in my day, and I am struck by the way that it now appears to exist in a sort of parallel privileged universe. If this seemed to be less the case at the Stockport school, that would - for me, but not necessarily for others - be a point in Stockport's favour.

Have you cleared your blatant advertising with MNHQ?

The results at CHS are down this summer both for GCSE and A level - anyone have any idea why?
