If any year 7s or 8s (or thereabouts!) are fans of Michael Morpurgo's 'Private Peaceful', I've just watched the film and it's excellent. It's very true to the book, minus a couple of little things, and brilliantly acted. I think it must have gone straight to DVD and IMDB says it was released this year but I don't think it went to cinemas.

I've been reading the book with my Year 8s this term and am going to show them the film next week.

Ooh, I will look that up. I read PP on my kindle earlier in the year and thought it was a brilliant book. Who's in the film?

I'm not a Y7 mind grin

Richard Griffiths and Frances de la Tour are in it. I didn't recognise the young actors but I think they've been in a few things.

It's very sad-as you'd expect!-but not at all gory. I don't think there's any blood at all in fact. I did shed a little tear at the end!

Dd in y7 has been studying this in English aand has loved the book. The teacher has promised to show them the DVD but as most of them are still 11, the school need parents to approve that their child can watch it.

Yes, it's a 12. It is very sad, and there are scenes of war-shells going off, people flying through the air, but no blood or gore. There's one kiss!
