Help? Wokingham Schools - Advice Please

Re: Wokingham Schools. Help? We are looking at buying a house on Evendons Lane in Wokingham and are starting to look at what schools our nearly 7 year old son would get into (he starts Junior level in September next year). If you live on that road or know someone who does, could you please let me know which Infant/Junior/Secondary schools they have managed to get into/secured. Having done a bit of research myself, as this house isn't central, it looks like pot luck allocation and not necessarily your catchment or you are offered schools located 2+ miles away! This will impact our decision about buying the house, so I would really appreciate relevant feedback and quick :) Thank you so much.

I live in Wokingham, but not near there. The only people who I know in that area go to private school, so might not be what you are looking for. However, you do have St Sebastian C of E, which is a couple miles away (in Nine Mile Ride) and it's not oversubscribed. My friend takes her children there and she's very happy with it.

Forget primary, you should be thinking ahead and looking to move into the Maiden Erleigh catchment for secondary.

Wow, that's a lovely road to move to.

My DH grew up in that area and went to Emmbrook Secondary (where we met) but I am not sure if the catchments are still the same (or how well Emmbrook is rated these days!)

I believe The Forest School (Boys only) has a wide Catchment area and that St Crispins is well regarded now - considering it was the school to avoid in the 70's and referred to locally as Dustbins

It is way too early at age 7 to know what secondary schools will suit your DS, but he also have the option of trying for Reading school - (Boys Grammar). Also, if you want a church school, there is Ranelagh in Bracknell that some boys also travel to.

I have no clue about the primary schools though - sorry.

Emmbrook Primary is a mixed bag at the moment. Infants is ok, but lots of parents are extremely disappointed with Juniors. It only got a satisfactory in the last Ofsted, which for Wokingham is quite shocking. I spoke to a parent yesterday and told me nothing has really changed since that inspection (almost 2 years ago) so many families are unhappy. The school near the station would be much closer to you (I can't remember the name, sorry) and I know a few families there who are very happy with it.

I live off Evendons lane and my son started at reception this year. he wasn't offered a place at Wescott (our catchment school) nor was he offered a place at any one of the other schools within a two mile radius. He is now at Winnersh primary (4.5 miles away). There is a huge schooling problem in our area at the moment. We are now trying to get a free school set up in the Evendons area Evendons Free School to try and reduce strain. The council are also going to be setting up a primary school in the borough to cope with the problem. The location hasn't been decided yet but it's likely to be either Woosehill or Winnersh Farm.

This area is joint catchment - St Crispins, Forest (boys) and Holt (girls)

If I were you I would buy a house next to a primary school and cross my fingers.

Bitter.... oh yes!
