can anyone recommend a good private tutor or company for tutors in London - or conversely any I should avoid!

I have used First Tutors. This is basically a website where tutors advertise and you can get a lot of info about them up front and even a photo - which is the good thing about it.

The site makes the money from an introduction fee (if your want to hire one) - you can contact the tutor before doing so, to see if they are free or can meet your needs.

If you are interested in private tuition, I can recommend my son's tutor - he was excellent. PM me for more info.

I worked for Knowledge Seekers for a while and thought they were quite good - they take more care to find out what parents/pupils need than most.
