they will look at all of the children who have applied for spaces, thertes a possibility that if this a popular school, then other parents will have applied who are not in catchment, they will assign all the children in catchment, a space, then any extras will be assigned on other criteria, ie, distance from the school to home, any brothers or sisters currently at the school etc, they may be oversubscribed by 3 but could have say 5 who arent in catchment area and who live further away from the school than you do.

Have not been in this situation, we were lucky. DS goes to the local RC school, but all of his then friends applied for a different school.

The local school, was over by 8 and everyone got in. One of the 8 was almost certainly Ds's little friend.

Not promising you anything, but you just never know,

The likelihood of 3 dropping out before the start of term is fairly high. Stay on the waiting list for the school you want. I think Essbee's DS was something like 7th on the waiting list when they applied a few years ago and got a place (one class intake)

Don't panic yet... I was in a similar position with my DD. I accepted the place at our catchment school, and before the school year started, somene dropped out/turned their place down, and we were at the top of the list, so got a place at original first choice. I have seen this happen alot in the 3 years since she started school.

YG do you know any of the teachers of governors there?

Maybe that will pull some strings for you if you are equal with another family

Hope so

Accept a place at the other school but keep her on the waiting list for the one you want and ring every week to let them know you're still keen for her to get a place there. Is she due to start in September? Things really can and do change between first allocation of places and start of school so hang in there and get a solid telephonic working relationship with the school secretary. (worked for me and have got on well with her ever since.)

Do you know of any others that have applied to the school? You need to try and figure out if you are in a better position, you might not be one of the 3. Do you find out in March?

Is she due to start in September? Still time for others to drop out.

I'm also waiting to see if DS gets into his school, I only put down one choice so I have no idea what happens if he doesn't get a place. We live completely out of the catchment area, but I work at the school so fingers crossed. Fingers crossed for you too.

We didn't get into ds' first school straight away - were offered place at equidistant school, just stayed on waiting list for first choice, didn't have to reject/accept second choice, ds was 4, we got in in May/June.

Hope she gets a place!

I think you need a relaxing session at the Spa next week to forget about it!

Fingers crossed for now YG. And even if you are one of those 3, which at the moment they could be anyone, then so many children make changes before they even get to school in September, so you may well get that place by September anyway.
