This what I hear from my sister every time I tell her what DS is doing at school.

My sister has been a primary school teacher in Ireland for 20+ years and always has something negative to say about my experiences.

Today I mentioned that I had been to DS's assembly where we saw he kids do a piece on the 1960's covering Yuri Gagarin, Martin Luther King and a few other famous people and events. I was well impressed but my sister was shocked. Told her husband who I could hear swearing in disbelief in the background.

Her theory is that kids here are taught too much too soon and that if they struggle they will be left behind. It's OK for the brighter kids (which she thinks DS is) but not for all.

I have to warn you that she thinks the eduaction in Ireland is amongst the best in the world and while I think it has it's good points it is by no means perfect.

What can I say to her next time she goes off on one?

Swearing in Ireland is second nature )well in my family anyway) but I think you are probably right.

I spent ages once telling her that the eduaction system here may not be perfect but one brilliant thing it does is offer you different paths to a career (BTECs and the like). In Ireland it is very limiting and everything hinges on one exam (may have changed now).

Perhaps more people should talk up this country's eduaction.

is quite funny that on a thread about education you've spelt it eduaction.
