Beety, how does it work? Do you start with no marbles at all? Do you take marbles out for bad behaviour? Will it stop my kids bickering all the damn time?

Soren. I give 1 marble fotr a silver star, 2 for a gold star and 10 for a merit. And 1 if he goes to bed on time when there is a babysittter.

So for yours, you can give 1 marble for playing nicely, or for an act of kindness, or 3 marbles if they have not bickered at all. I don't take marbles away, he jujst doesn't get them if his work is not up to scratch.

I t hink If I heard he was being particularly rude I would though.

Stat with none.. and chat abjout what they woudllike with their marbles.

10 ,Marbles = top trumps for example.
Ds wants a scooter so 100 marbles = scooter. He is on 53!!!

I find marbles are great although I do get funny looks when I say "do that again and you lose a marble" or "If you do x I'll give you a marble".
I'm sure people think what a mean mummy dd done all that and she only gets a marble!!
I only need to say "marble" and any fighting stops immediately!

Thanks for that, beety, I'm going to give it a go - I'm at my wits' end with them bickering all the time (it's karma, I was exactly the same with my younger brother). I'm fed up of shouting/reasoning/time out...time for something new!

Now...where did you get your marbles ?

I am really touched that you chose to be my monitor!

I nearly phoned today . I actually got up and reached for the phone, then thought better of it, as my diary for next week is a bit unclear so I can't make an appointment yet. Please do keep hassling me, and I will do it.

We've been here 3.5 yrs and I haven't been to the GP ever for anything, so I'm not even sure what times the surgery is open, let alone when I can make an appointment. (My db is a surgeon, and all my friends/flatmates from uni are medics, which is why I tend to avoid doctors at all costs!)

Sorry, this sounds really lame and pathetic, I know. I am determined I will do this. Thanks for your support.

Soren - just a thought, I introduced mine at the begiining of the school hols cos my 2 were bickering the whole time and were getting v competitive. So we had just one jar with them working together for marbles, with the aim of a joint treat - tea out, cinema etc. Worked for me. They work as a team a bit more now. Good luck.
