St Saviours - Larkhall, Bath

I am moving to Bath and thinking about Larkhall. However St Saviours has a rating of '3' from Ofstead. Does anyone know if that is deserved? Seems odd as it's such a lovely area. Also what are the chances of living in Larkhall and getting your child into one of the better rated schools?

You'll need to live very close to one of the "Outstanding" schools to secure a place these days - but there are waiting lists.

Have a look on the BANES website - iirc they give details of the maximum distances away from each school that places were offered.

Just to confuse things, I have friends with DCs at St Saviours who are perfectly happy with it, friends who have moved their dc from St Saviours, friends who have moved their dc to St Saviours from one of the "better" schools, friends with DCs at the "Outstanding" schools who are perfectly happy...

My son is only 19 months old, so cannot speak from experience....

You could look at Batheaston school - just down the road from Larkhall. I am not sure about the exact catchment area (and the allocation of places in Bath is very much a lottery....): it has a very good Ofsted report, is very "inclusive" and is currently undergoing quite a lot of building/development.

St Stephens (Lansdown) is supposed to be very good (again, not far from Larkhall)

Bathwick St Marys is supposedly excellent, although places are like gold dust (you could live on the premises and still not get a place).

Newbridge school is very "up and coming" apparently (and I like Newbridge - used to live there).

Good luck.
