Residential MATH school - Hooow long.. Gasp!!

I've received the plans for my residential school during the summer hols.
It starts about 9am and apart from morning break, lunch, afternoon break, dinner - it doesn't finish until 8:30ish every day
I wasn't expecting an easy time, but blimey...

Was just having a rant but..
Residential week to develop and understand the maths for KS3 learning. I'm working towards a degree and this is one of the compulsory units. I either do it now and the written next year or wait and they will replace it with a combined version. I chose now as it will be handy... if I do badly, I'll wait until later in the course and do it again but was just shocked that it finished so late in the evening. Also getting nervous and keep thinking about pulling out.. I won't but GULP

Maybe 6.30-8.30 is a slap-up meal followed by drunken arguments about mathematical techniques.

Ah, motivations and expectations...

I've just agreed to a week's summer school for DC, and we're pleased that it's scheduled from 8.30 to 8.30, because the age range includes minors, so bed times have to be tempered. DC because there is so much to learn from others and a week is barely enough time, me because of the cost and the week away...

I also recall training sessions at a previous firm that were similarly scheduled over weekends. They were enjoyable if you accept that that's part of the agreement you've signed yourself up to, and actually there was always a lot to learn, technically and interpersonally.

Which makes me wonder if it was a compulsory unit when you signed up for the course. I hope you find it a pleasant surprise if it was not.

LOL pointy I wish.. I think the debate are in the morning, sadly but I might make some punch to go with the breakfast to liven it up :o

rosar - The degree is in small courses that you sign-up for individually, you get some compulsory and other selective but they have to be from a certain batch but also certain levels in order to meet the criteria for 'the' particular degree.

This particular course is a compulsory one and yes it will be full of fun and lots will be learnt and I'm all up for that. Thats the whole point of choosing this particular degree and the sub courses within it. I just wasn't expecting it to be until 20:00-21:00 every day.

I think its safe to say I'm nervous and scared but I'm sure it will be fine. I'm now going on the promise that I'm going to learn and have fun and as per my previous post; if I don't do well, I can try again in a couple of years when I have more experience under my belt :)

I think that sort of time is quite standard for a lot of courses. I have been on quite a few over the years both technical & professional & most did not finish until 9ish. I sometimes found it difficult to get to sleep as I need time to wind down before sleeping, but I guess thats why most people hit the bar as soon as we were finished. Have fun.

Bar? I won't look out of place much if I only have one and don't stay up late, will I? I'll be trying hard to join in a socialise but I'm really not a great small talk person so will have great difficulty getting into general conversations outside of the course detail unless soemthing pops up that I know! Damn do I feel silly... not regretting booking this course at all
