Help understanding: "You are the first bidder and you are close to being outbid"

How can that be? Sorry have never bid before and may be being dense. Are the ebay household gods just saying that because I put in the lowest possible bid?

Are they trying to get me to enter into a bidding war with myself??

Or are they just warning me I should put in a maximum

Yes you have put in the lowest bid.

Yes they are saying put in more because you have put in the minimum and there's a high chance you'll be outbid.

ebay don't know what other bids will be made - it is just a standard message suggesting that you may wish to place a higher maximum bid just in case you get outbid. You can't outbid yourself - if no other bids are made you will win at your original bid

I would read it as "you are the first bidder, the second bidder is close". Am a novice though.
