eBay

My Ebay account has been hacked into - Ebay spotted it. What now?

Do I need to do anything? I hardly ever even look at Ebay much less use it. Just tried to look and and couldn't access it. When finally got in it seems I've been hacked and 2 bracelets (low value) have tried to have been bought. It says I now need to pay but presume I obviously don't since the "seller" is no longer registered.

Has worried me though at how it has been done. Anyone else had this?

Thanks

someone did this with my dh and bought a jacket for £900! they took the money from his account. Ebay froze the transaction but it took him overdrawn with the bank! it took a few days to get the money back and the bank charged him for being overdrawn - luckily they gave him the charges back and he got his money back,

Worrying isn't it? Ebay suggested they (perpetrators) did it due to me opening a phishing email but I haven't; I never open those.

How did you discover this - did you get an email to tell you, or did you log on directly after typing in www.ebay.co.uk? I would be wary if you found out through email that the scam is not that email to get you to divulge your login details - pretending to be from ebay.
Why would anyone hack your account and buy something knowing that nothing can be dispatched until paid for....You were hardly going to cough up for things you didn't buy and anyway if you did they would have to arrange to have good delivered to their address somehow.
Before you do anything more login direct to ebay and go to your "my ebay" section and see what messages are in your inbox there and what has been "bought" etc. Change your password immediately too, especially if you have logged in via a link in an email.

my dh's bank rang him because it was an unusually high amount from his bank

bg - it was when I tried to log on to Ebay - I was locked out and told I needed to change my password. I wasn't advised via email (and know not to believe/trust that type of email anyway), the messages were in my Ebay inbox from Ebay (but due to be deleted within a month so I could easily have missed them.) I presume the account has been hijacked (along with lots of others?) to tempt me into buying the items in order to get access to my bank/paypal account? Not sure how the scam works, tbh. 2 bracelets at $5 and $3. Presumably low value to test the account. Am impressed with Ebay picking it up. Thankfully, I hardly use Ebay so I guess that helped pick them up as unusual transactions.
