I'm currently selling an item on ebay that still has 6 days to go. I've had a message from someone saying that they are the only bidder on my item but their bid hasn't met my reserve so can I tell them what the reserve is to see if they can match it.

Their bid is under by a very long way.

Should I tell them??

If they are the only bidder it won't go up until someone else puts in a bid - and they will only know the reserve if the bids go above it IYSWIM.

I don't disclose reserves but some people do - I am not really sure what difference it makes.

You could add a BIN price if you wanted - I think you still can as it has not reched reserve - make it the price you are happiest with not just the reserve IYSWIM

It's entirely up to you.

Personally, from experience I never put a reserve on anything.

It attracts much less bids.

I always start an auction at the price I would at least be happy with - say worst scenario £9.99 - start it at that.

Reserve auctions are not the way to go - for me anyway.

What is the least price you would be happy with - start it at that.

I tell buyers the reserve. It doesn't really matter either way because someone else needs to bid to put the price up anyway.

Jane, the auction has already started and has a bid on it.

Sorry, when I say I am not sure what difference it makes I mean, they cannot do anything with that knowledge - except decide it is too much money for them.

If they decide it is too much money they may not continue to bid which means that their bids will not push up other people bids. All meaning you may end up with a lower end price or not selling at all IYSWIM

Sorry I meant to add - the next time you list an item.

Thanks everyone. I emailed the bidder and explained that my reserve was a great deal higher than his bid but that I wasn't prepared to quote the reserve price to him.

He hasn't replied or bid again so I'm keeping my fingers crossed it sells at all. Still got a few days to go so here's hoping.
