Want to leave negative feedback for this - would you?

I bought a phone charger last Wednesday on Buy It Now. As you can imagine I had a choice of absolutely loads of shops but chose this particular one because it said "NEXT DAY" down the side of the item picture and said it was in London. I was very careful to choose a UK item (there were loads in Hong Kong/China/USA) because we really needed this charger urgently (DHs phone has now died!)

Yesterday (obviously a week later), still no sign of the charger so I sent them a message. I've just got a reply apologising and saying they "had to despatch from Hong Kong because their main warehouse had sold out and it should be here by next Friday". They did, to be fair, also apologise for not contacting me earlier

I think they deserve negative feedback. Do you agree? Or would it be unfair of me?

Have they offered you any kind of refund. I would press for that tbh first and then see how happy you are with their outcome.

Thanks for your reply Galava

No they haven't, their message said (and this is copied exactly)

Dear customer ,

We are sorry, we just checked and was informed by our shipping department that your item was directly sent out from our supplier in Hongkong on 18 Jun, for we just went out of stock for this item in the local.
Delivery normally takes 7-14 days. Sorry for not being able to keep you informed before the item was sent out to you.
Sorry again for the inconvenience caused; hope it will reach you soon!

I really am tempted to leave negative feedback

I think you should report them for false pretences to start with- they are clearly yet another Far Eastern set up who probably try that scam with every buyer..

Sorry, pressed post too soon there

I don't feel as I can request a refund because I didn't really pay for it - ebay had sent me an offer code to use on Paypal which paid for it in full

I would email them first and explain that you bought from them as they offered next day service and see what they reply.

Bucharest I thought that at first, but they've got 98.5% positive feedback out of 1,170 so I think it would have come out sooner if that was the case. A lot of the feedback says how quick delivery was too

TCM I might just do that. It's not the money though (was only £1.99 and as I said I didn't really pay for it) we were (are!) just so desperate for a charger and unable to go out and buy one so thought this would be a quick option

They surely should have contacted me and told me the situation? Then I could have either said yes I'll still have it or no I won't

Yes, that's what they should have done. It's annoying when you choose a seller who obviouly has a high turn over and they don't come up to scratch. I try never to use a seller who has under 99%.

can you still leave neutral feedback? I think I would do this instead, with an explanation.

I think I'll do the same in future TCM

I've sent a message back saying I'm not happy because I bought theirs from a huge choice because their picture said 'next day' and I've now had to order another one from a seller who assures same day despatch. I'll see what they come back with

Let us all know what they say, won't you? We'll have a vote about whether you leave neutral or negative feedback.

Ah yes meemars..., that is an option I'd forgotten that. Depending on what their reply is I'll consider that too

Will do TCM thank you. Very much doubt I'll hear today though, it took them 28 hours to reply to my last message

UPDATE

Bucharest it looks like you were right! By sheer co-incidence a work colleague of mine bought from the same shop and guess what?? Yes - same thing has happened and she's had exactly the same message!

Their latest reply to me, again copied exactly:

Please first let us express our apologies to you for all the inconvenience caused.
We are sorry for not being able to keep you informed before the item was directly sent out from our supplier in HK, for we just went out of stock for this item in the location.
We were wondering whether you would wait a bit longer and keep the item when arrives, we will meanwhile offer you a 30% refund of the total price by then.
We apologise to you in this case. If you can let us know your thought on this, it would be highly appreciated

I'm really tempted to report them to ebay now as well as leaving negative feedback

If I were you I would report them to Ebay and leave negative feedback too. Tell them that a 30% discount isn't enough to cover your inconvenience.
