why bother with recorded ?

I'm so cross. I have started posting some of my parcels first class recorded - depending on the value/popularity of the item as a few parcels had gone missing and of course RM do lose things but you can't help but wonder about the integrity of the buyer.
Anyway today a brand new ebayer who bought one of my items the other day emailed to say that she had received the item however wasn't it supposed to be signed for? She had found it tucked behind her bin and there was no card through the door indicating this. She just found it by chance.
I am an honest ebayer who strives to get parcels out ASAP. I always use first class and state that parcels will be dispatched within 2 working days.I generally post out the day after payment. My feedback score is 100% and nearly all of my buyers comment on the speedy service when leaving feedback.

I agree. I have started sending anything that sells for a reasonable price by recorded delivery - it's the only way to ensure that you would win a dispute and there are too many dishonest buyers out there.

I'd complain to RM if I were you.

I had a different problem with recorded delivery. I had to return a faulty item. The seller seemed like a PITA who didn't want to refund so I sent it recorded. Someone at the address signed for it using the 'original' name Mr/s Smith - I have seen the signature online. Seller said nothing had arrived and noone of that name there. Absolutely nothing I could do [grr]

Can you make a complaint against RM for the value of the item?

When I spoke to them they didn't want to know as it had been signed for. Thankfully it was only £15. Did make me made though.....
