I am a bit of a nut when it comes to number of watchers, etc --- but my biggest thing is how many views I get. I always look at the big green box down the bottom to see how many people have looked. Biggest has been 550 so far for a toy I sold.

Why do people sit around watching anyway - I wish they'd just go ahead and bid on it

Yes hits is good too...but every time you sneek a look to view how many are hiting you are adding to it yourself so can be an unreliable indicator if you are too obsessive about it.

Best I hd was a combined total of around 520 watchers for 3 items I sold (may have been dupliates as items were related). They were so sought after and rarely available on ebay that one of them went all the way from Cambridgeshire to Scotland as a buyer collects item.

no one else can see how many watchers you have.
You can hide the number of views from others.
Hits are not affected by yourself and each hit is unique.
Counters are unreliable but do give you an indicator....sorta

I look at mine all the time

I am addicted to checking watchers, bids, feedback etc.... tis sooo sad. Have listed about 40 items over the last 3 weeks and am putting loads on over the next few days.

Oh yes, DH and I are completely obsessed with checking our progress. We are currently selling a chair, pick up only, which has 17 watchers!

Off to check the listings I posted 15mins ago

I thought that the hit counter didn't distinguish between you and potential buyers (although I knew that you only get 1 hit per internet session)

do you have to pay for the hit counter? Have always steered clear for fear of costing myself more money!

PerfectPrefect · 31/05/2009 21:45

no - it is free.

thanks .. wonder whether it will add to my addiction though

mwah hah, you are obsessed, grattage.

I think your own hits don't add to the number of views, unless you are using a different puter.

There is a vague watchers/bids correlation, but it's only v. tenuous. If you have no watchers at all taht ain't great. But most watchers won't bid. I reckon some of them are just casing to see what they can sell stuff for.

Yes I am obsessed and I'm always checking my laptop to check for bids, questions, number of views, what other people have listed that are same/similar, whether they have 'stolen' my images etc etc.
Ebay is an addiction but so is MN

Oooo 2 hours in. 4 watchers spread across 8 items....

If someone clears their cookies all the time then each time they click your item it will add another 1 to the counter even though it's the same person!

I find the less I look, the more something sells for!
If I forget I've got an item finishing, I'm always pleasantly surprised...if I keep looking it has about 200 watchers and sells for 50p.
