eBay

My friend is touting tickets on Ebay and thinks it's a great way to make money (!)- what do you think?

....as it's sits uncomfortably with me!

She is currently waiting to see how much she has sold certain concert tickets, face value £32 and currently selling for £185 (not sure if that's each or a pair). She says she feels 'bad' for doing it but then told me she bought other tickets to sell on ebay too and they went for a lot over face value.

She is turning into a ticket tout and said it's a great way to make money. In my eyes though I think it's immoral as people are paying waaaaaay over the odds! Also, some of her best mates really want the tickets that she's selling just now (but they don't know she has them) and she's not telling them so she can make lots of money.

What do you think?

i think that

1.) it's illegal
2.) i would report it to ebayt.

sorry, but I really, really, really hate this. I have wanted to go to gigs that I couldn't get tickets to because of selfish people like her who bulk buy and then sell illegally.

show me them and i'll report her.

I haven't said to her how I feel but I might now- I did say to her that she was turning into a tout but she thinks nothing of it. She even opened up an account under her dads address so her friends didn't know she was selling

Not only illegal and immoral but absolutely no loyalty to her friends.

I believe that many much sort after tickets have a maximum number to buy in one go so unless your friend knows things that we don't know or has set herself up with many different buying identities email addresses etc then I would assume that she is pretty small scale.

I believe sale of these tickets are on a first come first served basis so if people want these tickets at face value then they should snap them up then. If they don't want to pay more they don't have to buy them for inflated prices on Ebay but judging by the feedback I have seen for sellers of tickets I would say the poeople that do buy are happy with the sale. It appears sellers have to state face value so it's not like they're being hoodwinked.

I would be more concerned if you had said your friend is scamming buyers by taking monety for tickets she has no intention of selling - ie these sellers who say they'll meet the buyer last minute etc but not turn up - these are way way worse and these people are the "absolute scum".

Your friend is making a bit of dosh by supplying to the demands of others who are willing to pay over the odds for something they really want - isn't that what Ebay's all about?

mspontipine, have you ever tried to buy gig tickets for something popular?
i have tried phoning as soon as lines opened and sat htere for 40 mins trying to get through only to find it's then sold out.

it isn't ok to tout tickets. it's illegal. and it's incredibly unfair.

Blast Aimsmum! I'm not near you - unless you're planning a trip to Nottingham!

The gutting thing about this is my sister's going - she bought 4 tickets ( because she could! ) even tho she only wanted 2 - and just gave the other 2 ( well sold at face value ) other 2 to office pal at face value.

They are my most favourite and now she's pretending she didn't know this but she did and I want to see them so much it makes me feel like crying when I think about it! And her partner's going and she's not even really that into them but wants to be with sis. Huhhhhhhhhhhh. I am watching some on Ebay but I don't really want to pay that much over the odds so I won't!!

Aimsmum, I am near you, and I'd love Killers tickets. But I need two. It would end in divorce if only one of us went.

I've got my ticket from Ebay - there was no chance of me buying one from the venue. I have paid a price that I am happy with. (£20 over the original price) I would pay no more than that amount.

As long as I get my ticket I am very very very very happy!!
