I sold a dvd player and set of surround sound speakers on ebay earlier in the week - they went for a bit more than I was expecting (£80), but were in tip top condition.

Just after the auction ended the guy emailed me to say that it was his brother that had bid on them using his account and that he wanted to know what cables they came with, and what condition they were in as he might not want them. I emailed him back to say that it came with the cables listed and were in great condition, so he paid.

I spent 2 hours packing the stuff up, ended up loosing £7 on postage as they were that heavy with all the foam/paper/bubble wrap.

Anyways I get an email from him today

"Hi, I have just received delivery of this item and I must say it was packaged well however, despite asking the condition of the system/speakers, you failed to mention that one of the stands is completely broken. The screws and fixing are still attached to the base and the bottom half is completely broken; therefore it must have happened before delivery. I am not satisfied with this at all and will be returning the system back and requesting a full refund + expense of return. I will await to here from you shortly before I progress with this"

I have told him that I dont like his tone and that I dont like being accused of such things. I asked for pictures which he has provided but it looks like they have been deliberately smashed up - there is no way this could have happened in transit.

He has no said that he is taking the matter to paypal and ebay. I am so upset that this fucking chancer is taking the piss like this.

Any advice?

Many Thanks

Call his bluff. He can't proove they were like that when you sent them

He can't prove they were broken. He should have paid for postal insurance.

tHEY were insured through the post but from the pics it is crystal clear that they havent been damaged in transit - he has ripped the facia off the front of one of the speakers and snapped the other in half.

ebay won't uphold his complaint. ots clear from his behaviour right from the outset ie the lie that his brother bid on his account, that he changed his mind once he won and is now just trying to get his money back.

let him open a dispute. respond to the dispute calmly, stating all facts, including evidence shown in photos. You will probably win.
