SELLER CLAIMING HASN'T RECIEVED POSTAL ORDER!

I bought some trainers for ds on ebay, it said pay by cheque or postal order only so the day after I won them (22nd Jan) I posted the postal order and emailed the seller to say I had done so. I had the postal order 'crossed' which I think means it has to be paid into a bank. Anyway I still haven't recieved the trainers and the seller mailed me a few days ago to ask if i definatelty sent it as they claim to have never received it? I'm knid of stuck now cause they won't send the trainers unless they receive payment and i've already paid for the postal order so i'm not paying twice! Is there any way to find out if the posstal order has been cashed or to get it refunded and stopped? Any ideas?

If you kept the receipt for the postal order can you check at the post office if it has been cashed? I've never had to do it myself but I would've thought in theory it must be cancellable and reissueable if not received? sorry I'm not much help, but there must be a reason you pay for the privilege of sending one!?

from the post office website -

With each Postal Order, you'll receive a separate receipt containing all the information you need should you wish to make an enquiry.
