eBay - still good?

I haven’t sold things on eBay for years. I used to do really well from it.

It will be mainly ladies clothes. Not high-end stuf - just your usual Primark, New Look, Boohoo stuff. Does it sell well these days?

Any up to date advice, please? Is it worth my while these days?

I buy and sell on ebay. You'll see the fees have gone up but so too have both buyer and seller protection. I sell similar things to you with a fair bit of success. I love ebay!

I find that pricing that cheap actually puts many people off so I tend to think charity shop prices or a bit less. People love free postage so I cost that in. A small parcel is now 2.95 second class!

With those brands I wouldn’t really waste your time to be honest. They probably won’t even sell and even if they do it won’t be for much. Most likely won’t even equate to minimum wage for the time you spend photographing, listing, packing and going to the PO, then deducted 13.5% for eBay and PayPal fees.

Clothing wise the only things that tend to sell well are in demand brands.

Is it still a good idea to sell shorts as a bundle. I have 4 pairs. Is it a good idea to sell them as a job lot for someone’s winter holiday rather than separately?

Help! I’m getting bids on my items and also some “offers”.

This is new thing to me - ebay has changed a lot!

The offers expire tomorrow night. If I decline them, do the items just go back on sale for the original duration of the listing?

Yes if you decline the offer or it expires the original listing still runs until the end.

eBay is definitely still good.
I would recommend only going Buy It Now though to guarantee a good price .

Personally I don’t sell Primark or New Look as I like to get at least £10-15 for each item plus postage and these brands second hand just don’t reach that price point

( obvs there are exceptions to this , for example I’ve had Primark items with v unique prints or that bloggers have worn etc and are more desirable which have went for around the £20 mark but this is rare )

Also if you do Buy It now you can have Best Offer switched on where people can make you offers , so it’s kind of the best of both worlds

99p not worth it if you’re charging what it costs to post, as eBay now charge fees on postage so you lose out, then normal fees and PayPal fees. I’ve sold with success recently and started all bidding at £3 or so, when i would normally do it at 99p. Everything sold thankfully!

I occasionally sell on ebay, but I very rarely use the auction format. If you want to guarantee a minimum price then use Buy it Now. Sometimes I price it higher with the Best offer option so that buyers will give a sensible offer near what I'm willing to accept.

Sold some unwanted new Uggs recently at a good price, and after initially asking for proof of authenticity, I haven't heard anything back from the buyer since. No news is good news!

If you are starting again after a long break, things have changed a lot on the postage front. Particularly, there are "click and collect" options, and you can buy Royal Mail postage through eBay, directly linked to the buyer's address etc.

But you need to be careful about this. Generally, eBay will estimate the postage at the official Royal Mail price - but they charge selling fees on the whole price including postage. So you need to manually add at least 11% to the Royal Mail price so that you are not out of pocket on postage.

Also if you use the Buy it Now format, eBay enforces an option to let a potential buyer make an offer (otherwise the listing is not free). To avoid derisory offers eBay is set up to automatically reject an offer at less than (AFAIR) half of the BIN price. But you can manually adjust this to a higher level if you want to - and you should think carefully about the minimum price you would actually accept when doing this.
