Bought an item for £50 on eBay. Hadn't arrived so I chased it up with seller. They've sent it Royal Mail first class, and uploaded the tracking which says it's been delivered to my house or a neighbours, but didn't leave a card, and it wasn't signed for so I have no idea where it is. I've checked with my close neighbours and they don't have it. Any advice?

Open a case with eBay. Also check with Royal Mail exactly where it was delivered to, there should be an address.

The postman could have left in in a 'safe place'... have you checked recycling bins etc?

If it's still a mystery eBay will refund you. I had to refund someone got a £100 coat years ago despite having a signature for delivery Shock

You need to enter the tracking number into the Royal Mail website yourself, this should give you the 'delivery' address.

The same thing has happened to me, I ordered an expensive item DPD were the courier the item is showing up delivered the name is my surname.

I’ve contacted the company (John Lewis) they don’t want to know.

I have entered the tracking and it says 'delivered to home address or neighbour'. Unfortunately the seller hasn't sent it signed for, so I have no idea where it has been delivered to. I'm just worried that as tracking states 'delivered' eBay will do nothing. I have opened a case and seller has provided tracking info. I can see from the sellers point of view the info shows it has been delivered, unfortunately I don't have it.

I has this but it was another courier not Royal Mail. Tracking said it was delivered to my address but I hadn't received it.

I went back to the seller and (pleasantly) told him I still hadn't received it. I was lucky that he was a lovely seller, he took my word for it and sent me a new item.

Also had similar with sellers who didn't respond. I sent several messages before opening case with Ebay.

Have you tried ringing Royal Mail and asking for their help locating it?

I was sent parcel that went awol and, although RM were a bit useless when I contacted, the buyer's sorting office helped the seller track it down.

Hope you get somewhere.

If you open a case with eBay and the seller can proved delivery, you will lose and won’t get a refund.

Mimco I’m not sure what happened in your case but it certainly is not ebay protocol and I’ve never had a similar situation, ever. I’ve always won a not received case as long as I’ve had proof of delivery.

In fact, I lie. Once, in my 15 years as a seller, I had a seller claim concert tickets I sent weren’t delivered, despite evidence to the contrary. I advised her to open a INR claim with eBay and they awarded her a “non fault refund” from their own funds, not my pocket, but in 12 years as a seller, this is the only time I’ve seen this happen.

OP, firstly check the tracking online. It will tell you what Royal Mail depot the parcel was delivered from, check it’s your local one. If not then it’s been sent to the wrong address, so call ebay and point this out.

If you can, check with your postman if he knows anything about it.

Prob the best bit of advice I can give you here is to be nice to the seller and try to get them to push for a non delivery with Royal Mail and submit a claim for compensation which they will generally pay out on if pressed hard enough. The seller can then refund you. Not a lot of sellers will do this though as it does involve quite a lot of hassle, so they would have to be a genuine good egg. It’s worth a shot though, but as I said try to remain on good terms with the seller if you want their assistance.

The tracking doesn't tell me which sorting office it was sent from. It was just sent normal first class, so tracking shows it was sent to the correct address, but it didn't require a signature . I live in central London, so we don't have just one regular postman. It wasn't signed for, so it could have been left outside my building and picked up by anyone, or given to any neighbour. I know everyone in my block and we all regularly take parcels for each other and pass them on, so I'm pretty sure if it had been delivered to my building it would have found its way to me.
