Item not as described...

But it's a bloody sofa. I paid to get a courier to collect it. I know I can get a refund on the item and return costs (if they want it back) as I've got pretty good proof it's not as described but what about the delivery cost I paid for?

How was it described and why isn't it as described?

Seems a bit odd unless the measurements were incorrect and therefore it doesn't fit the space you bought it for.

It was advertised as leather. It's not.

I've found so many things online that are advertised in the "headline" as leather that then go on to say it's "PU Leather" (or something similar) or synthetic leather in the full description/small print.

Does the listing for your sofa do this at all?

If it’s not as described you’ll get the delivery cost refunded too.

How did you pay for it?

if You paid for the courier in a separate transaction to the sofa (ie it wasn’t included in the PayPal payment to the seller), then no you won’t get that back, unfortunately.

Thanks Lottie. I did unfortunately.

There was also a big graze down one of the corners (hence I realised it wasn't leather) which wasn't described. The courier cost more than the sofa!

Hi MrsW, ah unfortunately you won’t be able to get it back then. Well not from eBay or PayPal at least, although you could go down the small claims route but I’m guessing it won’t be worth the trouble.

So who pays return of it then? Might have to be you OP. As it didn't go through Paypal. If you want to return it he might make you pay? you need to see sofas to buy them. You should have viewed it first.

Goulish where did the OP say she didn’t pay for the sofa via PayPal? Although this hasn’t been 100% clarified..... perhaps you could confirm, OP?

Assuming you did, then open a SNAD case with eBay (NOT PayPal) And it’s the sellers duty to provide a pre paid label for you to return the goods. Very tricky I would imagine with a sofa, but it your problem. And don’t let them send someone to collect it without getting a full refund FIRST.

The reason I advice NOT to open a PayPal case is that then you are responsible for arranging and paying the the return of the goods and must prove delivery using an online method with reference number (a receipt from a delivery company won’t suffice)

Paid with PayPal and have opened up a dispute with eBay. Tbh it didn't cost that much I reckon they don't want it back. It's currently in my garage.

I don’t think so either. Once the dispute has been closed I’d just freecycle it to get rid of it!

I thought OP said she didn't pay for the courier with PayPal? That's correct isn't it OP? That's what I'm getting on at. If you didn't go through Paypal for the postage of it then how can you expect him to pay for the return of it, when you paid it off your own back not through PayPal? He doesn't have to do that. He can just refund you the payment of the sofa minis the return postage.

I'm referring to your post where you said thanks Lottie I did unfortunately when Lottie said if you paid for it outside of eBay not through Paypal then you won't get the postage back. And you said you did unfortunately. I'm confused! 🤔

I'm talking about the postage/courier of it. Not the sofa. I know you paid for the sofa through paypal.

Thanks Lottie (for the info).
Yes I did (pay for the delivery via courier)
Unfortunately (because I'm not going to get my money back)
It's not rocket science.

I'm thinking I'll try and get rid for a small amount to cover all/part of the courier fees if they don't collect. It's worth it to someone. Just not to me.
