How do I return a partial amount of money to a buyer?

The item I posted wasn't as much to post as I expected. The buyer paid £5.70 postage but it actually cost £3.40, so I need to return £2.30.

How do I do this? On PayPal, I can see how to refund for the entire item, but not a partial amount.

I'm new to it all 😊 Advice is appreciated as this buyer paid immediately and I don't want the person to be out of pocket.

Have you taken into account the cost of the packaging you used, travel to the post office & cost of parking/bus fare ? because if you haven't then you should. The buyer was happy to pay £5.70 so no refund is necessary.

No, I haven’t taken that into account. I feel dishonest though taking an extra £2.30.

You know, I worry that the cost of the postage will appear on the packaging when it arrives and the person will be like “I’ve been ripped off!”

Can you just send them a payment of £2.30 like if you were sending someone a gift rather than doing it as a refund ?

Use PayPal. Click refund whole amount, then it gives you the option to input the actual amount of money you want to refund before you actually press send to refund. I have to do this often to refund postage amounts.
