Why can't I open and close it immediately ? Why do I have to wait.

It's not going to be a good transaction if they don't pay is it?

I want to close it and relist it

I think you have to wait 7 days after opening an unpaid buyer case, to give the buyer a clear chance to pay?

I feel your pain, someone bought one of my BIN items a few days ago, and as I am away for a few days from tomorrow I thought I'd let her know this, so I couldn't be accused of not posting promptly after payment. So, she will have had four clear days to pay and for me to post before I leave. She has had an invoice from eBay, one from me, and a friendly eBay message to remind her of the timeframe. I haven't heard a word from her. Not one.

I keep forgetting to set the "immediate payment required" or whatever it is button when I list BIN's, although Buy It NOW should mean just that anyway, with at least some communication if there is an unforeseen payment issue. Aargh!!

I think that once you've opened a case you can close it after 4 days.

you can open after 48 hours not 5 days. And yes you do need to wait another 4 days to close. And add them to your blocked bidder list too.

And why wait 7 days to open an unpaid case? - if they aren't going to pay there is no point waiting at all.

I opened after 5 days and after sending a reminder. The buyers bought 2 of my things and asked loads of questions so I was being courteous
