Can any of you EBay sellers tell me what the average cost would be to send a dress by First Class post within the UK?

I've just one an auction but the postage seems very expensive Confused .

Probably 3.80, if dress is fairly light (under 1 kg with packaging).
Use this calculator to be more sure.
I would send 2nd class with postage included in the sale price. Put down 3 day dispatch but actual post the same or next day after they paid, they'll get it almost as fast as 1st class anyway.

Thank you Thanks

The listing says Royal Mail First Class. Postage is £5.65 Hmm . The dress is polyester.

Reckon I should query with the seller before paying?

So based on the price. Of £3.80 they are charging you £1.75 more to cover the cost of packaging materials I expect? Nota huge amount really?

Ebay seems to estimate it for you. I always have to override the figure Ebay puts in for me as it seems far too expensive.

You can try and query it with the seller but if you've already won it I think you are now locked into a contract.

yes that does seem v pricey.

If you don't pay for the item they can issue a non paying strike, but 1 of those won't have a bearing on your account.

I reckon you shouldn't bid at all if you don't accept the terms & conditions. Find another seller. What are you going to ask for next? A different colour? Different size? Delivery via winged unicorn?

lljkk nice measured and rational response there Hmm .

Thanks for the sane replies Thanks . I've just weighed a similar dress and used the Royal Mail postage algorithm and it seems legit. Item paid for and on it's way Smile .

Anything posted with RM at the moment is £2.80 if under 2KG and I'm sure a dress would not be half that weight and if packed correctly it would go through their guidelines, half the trouble with packages are that people just bung stuff in and don't even fold them I have had some horrendous parcels sent to me,I build the cost of packaging into my item cost and keep my postage true to the value of the stamp so as not to cause any discord with my sellers and it works well.

A polyester dress will almost certainly weigh less than 1kg and will cost £3 20 to send by Royal Mail 1st class. To give the seller the benefit of the doubt she may not have weighed it before listing and has charged for a 1st class parcel over 1 kg which is £5 40 (or £5.45 cant remember which), adding an extra 20p or so for packaging.

As someone who sell a lot of clothing and sends it 1st class simply because I prefer my buyers to get things quickly there is no way a polyester dress will cost more than £3.20.

At the moment Royal Mail is offering 2nd class post up to 2kg for £2.80 so if you are happy to wait a few days to receive whatever you have bought then this is what it will cost her to post. IMHO £5 65 is way too much. That said you bid on the item knowing that this was what she was charging but in your shoes I would query it with her. To a certain extent it would be in her interest to reduce it because she will be charged 10% of the postage charge in fees so if she charges you a more reasonable amount her fees will be less IYSWIM.
