eBay

Seller cancelled transaction and refunded without consultation

I bid and won an item on ebay. I paid for the said item and waited for it to arrive. Then I saw the vendor had refunded the item and sent an email saying there was a fault.

They did not make any communication with me or ask me if I still wanted it. It was merely a faulty fastener (which I can repair). I have sent them an email saying I still wanted the item even with the fault, but have heard nothing back. I feel a bit shanghaied.

What can I do?

Suck it up I suppose - sellers don't have to sell. On the bright side at least you got your money refunded. Still a bummer if item was a one off with little chance of finding another.

But they did actually sell it. It was paid for. They didn't follow through and subsequently unilaterally cancelled the transaction.

How do I report them as a non performing seller?

while you can leave a negative, if they say to ebay they refunded as item had broken they will not get a non- performing seller strike as that is an acceptable reason for cancelling a transaction

I feel sorry for ebay sellers.

IMO it would be very petty and malicious to leave negative feedback and report them as a non performing seller when they have issued you with a full refund having discovered the item is faulty.

It is very common for sellers to refund and claim an item is faulty when in fact it didn't reach the price they hoped it would achieve - and a buyer can leave any feedback they want to, it is after all their overall opinion of the whole transaction after all.
