Paypal dispute help: Need to get proof something is a fake??

Long story short i got a bag recently that is blatently fake but was sold as genuine, 1 search of the serial number indicates it is a fake.

It was sold as an invoice through paypal not ebay, I asked the seller for a refund as its not genuine as described but totally fake, She ignored me for a week and 3 emails later I opened a case, so now paypal are asking for proof that the item is not genuine, they want letterheaded paper and a phone number of whoever I speak to?

Where the hell do I go for this, Do i take it to the original shop which to me is a 40 minutes journey? I'd also look stupid taking in a fake, but has anyone been asked for this, Thinking the police but isnt that wasting there time? Never had to do this before so really dont know what to do? Any advice appreciated, thanks

What make is the bag? Some brands won't verify fakes for you and some will.

You could see if it can be authenticated on the purse forum website.

If searching the serial number proves it's fake that should prove it to them too, or could you email mulberry with the serial number and ask them to confirm it's not valid

Shouldn't it be up to the seller to prove it is genuine?
Ebay puts a reminder up about fakes whenever a seller tries to list a designer item.

I would suggest for you to call Mulberry Customer Service directly, explain the situation and if they agree email pictures of this bag to them. They will be able to tell you if the bag is genuine or not. I used to work in a luxury brand and if someone came in the shop with a bag they were not sure about we always told them if it was genuine or not. Going to the police is also something you can do. Selling counterfeit items is illegal. Hope this helps!
Here is the link to the contact info in their website

Thanks for all your help, Unfortunately though the case was against paypal, even with a letter from trading standards to say the item was fake paypal found in the sellers favour and gave the money to her.

So not sure what to do next, there not even an appeal section i can click on!
