Is this a scam? Would you allow it? He says he needs to wait until payday. Frankly a PITA as I ebayed now for £ for DD's party which is before he can pay...
What should I do? Can I go to the next highest bidder somehow? Never had this happen before!

See if you can get a date for payment from him. It could be in 7 days which would be early August. If you can hang on then I would but you don't really have to. It will take time to relist but if you had other interest maybe you could offer to another bidder. I have waited before. It is up to you and it is a bit of a pain but you might get good feedback for your patience.

Have a look at the buyer's feedback. If he has less than 20 feedback ratings, he might well be a timewaster. if he has any ratings which state that he is a bad payer or a timewaster, report him to Ebay.

He wants to pay on 7th August. I had quite a few bids, but don't know what the next one down was...can I see it first before deciding? If it is only a pound then I think I would go with the other bidder - was relying on it for party food and a few bits for games. Doesn't make sense to me to bid on something when you can't actually afford it!

Annoying for you. I think there is a way you can offer it to the next seller at the sale price? but I'm not 100% on that. Is it something you could relist as a BIN and sell quickly? but that would cost you 40p

Hmmm. He has no negative feedback and seems to sell as well.
Quandary.
I have some other items ending soon so maybe I can just budget from those.
I really didn't think that this was the purpose of ebay though, not to hold items for people to get the cash together! Wink

Contact eBay, I'm sure that you can cancel the sale to the winning bidder and offer the item to the next highest bidder.

sorry but no chance - 2 days after auction ended open non payer case, close in 4 days time and then you can relist or do 2nd chance offer. You need to open and close the case first before offering or relisting or you risk 2 buyers and only 1 item. And add this buyer to your blocked bidder list.

His feedback won't tell you if he has done this before.
