Amazon seller?

Anyone else use Amazon to sell? Thought it would be a good place to get rid of some books but find their fees really high (seem nearly 50%??) Sold something today and Amazon added automatic postage of £2.80 - postage was actually £5.60 as heavy book. By the time they have taken their cut I probably made a loss on this as well as queing in post office for 10minutes. Anyone else used them with better results? Lots of people on this site seem to list their books as 0.01p also, how can this work?
thanks

I sell books on Amazon, but you're right, the fees are high and the postage cost doesn't always work out in your favour. On the plus side however, they are the "place" for books and your things may well sell on Amazon when they wouldn't elsewhere (eBay for example). When I list stuff, I weigh and check the PO price so that my price reflects what it's actually going to cost me and I make a profit (however small!). If the price other people are charging is too low for it to make me money then I give the book to Oxfam. Hope this helps.

Thanks cathan. I wasn't sure how to change the price Amazon charge for postage, tho, they didn't seem to have that option.

Trying to see things on Amazon/ebay thinking I could get a holiday cottage for us but said to the husband might just be the petrol there!

You can't change the price for postage for books on Amazon - instead ou have to take the postage price into account in your selling price. Some books that are heavy/thick just aren't worth it for private sellers to sell. Professional high volume sellers generally have a deal with the post office and pay less for postage than you will, so they can afford to undercut private sellers for those types of books.
