Hi

Sold my phil and teds on eBay. Described as having usual wear and tear of a second hand buggy would have.

The buyer came to collect, he had paid via pay pal beforehand.

He has emailed a week later saying there is a large rip in the baby section. On asking for pictures it's a small tear of about an inch. I honestly do not remember it being there at all.

I have offered him 10% refund as a good will gesture.

He has got back to me saying that it will cost £40 to repair but his nearest repair place is 50 miles away. He said he is thinking of asking for a full refund but would expect me to drive halfway to meet him as they live 70 miles away.

Surely it was his choice to purchase something in an area far from where they live in the first place?

He is saying he couldn't inspect the buggy properly as I was too busy with by 2 children! However, I didn't stop him from inspecting it himself and also he turned up 2 hours earlier than we agreed so DH wasn't there to keep an eye on the DC's.

What do you suggest I do now?

TIA

crikey - huge mistake accepting paypal, you should only have taken cash

You must keep your fingers crossed they don't claim not received and paypal will refund all of their money and you won't have a leg to stand on. They will then have a free buggy.

Tell him to return for a refund - I wouldn't get into the partial refund bit tbh.

I know. I totally forgot to change my profile to cash on collection.

However, surely as he has emailed me saying he is not happy with the buggy etc that proves he actually has it!

I'm not responsible for meeting him somewhere though am I?

the fact that he has emailed you stating he has it means nothing - if he opens a not received dispute then he will get a full refund from ebay/paypal as you have no online proof of delivery

no it is not your responsibility to meet him - just tell him to return for a refund in the condition in which he collected it

It would cost him less to send it by courier than the petrol to bring it back. I think he is angling for a bigger partial refund. offer him maybe 25 and see if he bites.

If he is 75 miles away thats a bit less than 40 miles for you.

I personally would go and meet him, take the buggy back and stuff his money up his arse. He is angling for £40+ reduction off the buggy.

Take it back, sell it again marked clearly 'cash on collection only, local pickup only'. Be honest and post it with a pic of the little rip. I am sure it would not put a lot of people off buying.

You may get a lower price doing it this way but the buyer has no comeback.

I have been ebaying for 8 years, no probs at all. Then didn't sell anything for about the past year. I've noticed on here people saying that stuff is going for lower prices or more buyers seem to be 'unsatisfied' and wanting refunds etc. Didn't beleive it till I listed about 20 things 2 weeks ago. Most of them ok but for the first time I've got non-paying bidders and have to wait for the fekking procedure to see if they pay, before I can relist. All 3 of these are items that will cost a lot more when the postal package sizes change next week, so no point relisting them as postage will be high and therefore I'll get lower selling price.

I have been looking into Preloved.com and will check out gumtree if it operates in my area.

I will stick to buying only on ebay from now on. Its had its time imo, and is not the best one for selling on anymore.
