I'm getting back into my eBaying, massive clear outs will keep me busy over this free listings weekend, wondered if anyone wanted to join me in making Christmas as cheap as possible and having the good people of eBay pay for most of it!

PurpleFrog Fri 31-Aug-12 08:51:28

No, BenedictsCumberbitch, free listing between 1st and 9th Sept inclusive! grin

BenedictsCumberbitch Fri 31-Aug-12 09:32:49

Haha yep you're right, I had a spot of number dyslexia there I think! Even better!

HiccupHaddockHorrendous Fri 31-Aug-12 13:13:41

I'm in!

Have had an eBay break over the summer except for relisting a couple of things.

I am on a serious mission to clear the clutter and try to recoup a little bit of the money I've spent on my bloomin car over the last couple of months!

The car is the first thing to go up for sale! Will try Gumtree first though.

HiccupHaddockHorrendous Fri 31-Aug-12 14:43:49

Right, the car and two buggies are now listed on Gumtree and one of the buggies is already on eBay. It has 7 watchers so far...please may someone bid on it so I can make a little bit of space!! grin

I have recently discovered freecycle so will be trying to offload as much stuff as possible that way to speed up the decluttering process. I have held on to so many things thinking I will eBay or carboot them but a few years on and they're still here!

Now I am heading upstairs <gulp> to make a start on ds' bedroom...wish me luck!

LineRunner Fri 31-Aug-12 14:47:26

Be brave, Hiccup, and go boldy ... I finally got a load of old school stuff shifted from DD's room (books, musical & sports stuff, uniform ...). Yay.

dizzyday07 Fri 31-Aug-12 22:50:15

Hiccup - I too am trying to use Freecycle to get rid of some of out unwanted tat! We are moving next week so I've tried to only keep bits that should sell so I'll give that a go in the run up to Xmas.

I had my washable nappy bundle pulled by Ebay (which I hoped would sneak through blush) so I will have to find another place to sell them.

I have a few watchers on some of my bits so hopefully they will go and I'll have even less to pack!

LineRunner Sat 01-Sep-12 16:09:06

Well, there's certainly a lot more interest in my ebay listing than there has been since early July. Looks like things are finally picking up!

So it's free listing now till the 9th - is that the final FLW till Christmas?

Mirage Sat 01-Sep-12 19:08:38

I'm over half way already-£167 so far.I'm running out of things to sell now though.I'm eyeing DH's collection of old shooting/superhero magazines, all 4 storage boxes of them!

EmptyCrispPackets Sat 01-Sep-12 20:45:22

Ive sold about £20 of stuff so far hmm

Have a box in the bedroom of dresses etc that's going to go on.

Bongaloo Sat 01-Sep-12 21:26:55

So what happens about the ebay & paypal fees?
Do they come off automatically, or should I expect an invoice afterwards?

BabylonPI Sat 01-Sep-12 22:28:52

I have just the one listing at the moment. It's got 61 watchers and 2 bids, with the highest being £310 grin

I requested higher selling allowances this morning, and after confirming my phone number, I can now sell up to £3500 per month grin I started off with being allowed 10 listings and a max of £650 grin

LineRunner Sat 01-Sep-12 22:31:25

Bongaloo, I get a monthly invoice. I can either pay this from my PayPal account; or if I don't I have set it up to be deducted from a bank card. You can see what you owe if you go to your 'Account' tab.

Bongaloo Sat 01-Sep-12 22:38:36

Thanks LineRunner
I've much to learn as I go along.

But have made about £7 today. I guess the idea for me (selling little cheap items) should be to just bombard ebay with listings
<charges camera battery for morning>

VoldemortsNipple Sat 01-Sep-12 22:46:17

Up to now I should have at least $70 (pound) by Monday. Hopefully it should raise quite a bit more than that. I have 41 watches on my doc marten's which started off at 99p smile

I have a couple of winter coats to go on tomorrow. I've also got a couple of coast dresses but I need to get them cleaned first.

bluecarrot Sat 01-Sep-12 22:55:44

Well, I have two items ending today from last weekends free listing time and made a whopping £6 before fees.

However, watchers on everything that ends tomorrow, plus 25 new listings started this evening.

Have a few ready to put on tomorrow night but going to sort a few more similar items and then make them live at the same time (ish) in the hope it will encourage people to buy more than one thing!

HiccupHaddockHorrendous Sat 01-Sep-12 23:31:55

Wow, Babylon! What are you selling?!

I have finally, after how many years months, listed the bloomin Playmobil Victorian mansion grin. I think I spent the whole of last year planning on listing it then listed it many times with the aim to edit the description and add photos but every time I pulled it with no bids.

I've also put the second pushchair on.

I started taking photos of Winter clothes but I'm not sure whether to bother or to just send them to the charity shop. I only got rid of about half of the summer things I wanted to and almost all went for their start price.

Any opinions?

LineRunner Sat 01-Sep-12 23:40:07

Hiccup, I know that 2nd hand clothes are a pain in the arse to sell on ebay, but I am using the free listings to start bids at £3.99, £5 etc, and getting some interest, to make it worth my while!

The summer lull seems to be ending.

HiccupHaddockHorrendous Sat 01-Sep-12 23:54:31

What sort of clothes are you selling?

In the past, I've sold ds' better stuff and found it a bit hit and miss. Last year, I sold some of my clothes and was surprised at some of the things that sold well (eg George/Sainsburys).

Nearly all my summer stuff I sold earlier this year was from Matalan.

LineRunner Sun 02-Sep-12 00:03:29

Outgrown teenager stuff mostly. Mix of H&M, New Look and Adidas! Some nice coats and jackets, rarely worn.

F4ttyBumBum Sun 02-Sep-12 09:30:43

I can't believe that I have 4 watchers and no bids for a reasonably priced Missoni jacket and 13 watchers and 3 bids for a pair of Sainsbury's trousers!!

Sold some of the baby stuff last night, got women's clothes ending tonight, come on buyers!!

lljkk Sun 02-Sep-12 12:30:01

I once had 8 watchers but only one bid, on a 99p item. Then she didn't pay, which turned out to be a good thing, despite the aggro. After NPBing her I put it in the Freeads & sold for a decent price, local collection.

DH & I have agreed to flog one of the bicycles (we have nearly 2 dozen blush). Once that goes, I should easily have £300 smile.

SNOWBall4girlz Sun 02-Sep-12 13:41:06

I'm going to join this challenge in the hope that it will get me back motivated.

You can list 150 items between now and next Sunday for free but not got much on yet need the kids to get back to school and stop taking stuff back smile.

Here is what I have on the moment smile

Wishing everyone lots of luck hope ebay starts picking up !!

SNOWBall4girlz Sun 02-Sep-12 13:42:48

It still amazes me that top stuff can sell for a pittance and you get a bidding war on a primark dress.

I suppose thats what keeps us all interested smile

HiccupHaddockHorrendous Sun 02-Sep-12 14:01:35

Maybe I should just concentrate on the cheaper lines of clothes...which would be useful as I rarely buy anything else these days grin.

There is a Matalan clearance shop near me and they often have things for £1/£1.50 so I buy loads of random things for £20 or £30 in the hope that some of it will fit and look ok on. There are no changing rooms and you can't return things so I now have a pile of BN items which are no good.

Very slow start for me today. I could do with a little snooze before the next listing session but I fear the rest of the day will be gone if I sleep now.

fergoose Sun 02-Sep-12 14:13:56

If you process listings during the day but schedule them for future (say couple of weeks) then before that scheduled time go in of an evening at say 9pm and edit the listings so they are listed immediately. You then don't pay the 6p scheduling fee, can list throughout the day at your leisure, but have items ending at a far better time of day to attract buyers.

I never end listings during the day - you don't get nearly as many buyers as you do during the evening.
