Non payers - why do they do it?

This has happened to me 3 times now. Am sick of it and wondering why on earth people go to the effort of bidding, and waiting 10 days for a listing to end, then disappear into thin air.

I just don't get it. Why?

Have you set your settings so that people with very low ratings or non-payment histories cannot bid?

Having some trouble even blocking this buyer. So have relisted the item non payer bought, just to have this same weirdo bid again. Tried to email ebay, but it keeps saying listing is not valid.

This buyer is just weird.

did you file a non paying report against the buyer - you must do this to get your fees back and to give them a strike. You must do this before you relist

Why can't you block them - have you added them to your blocked bidder list?

bodyofeeyore, can you tell me how to block bidders with no history or low ratings?

I have blocked this bidder, which has 2 usernames I think, and is just causing massive trouble. But I suspect they will just get another username and try again.

Nightmare, wonder why they're doing it?

it seems it is a malicious bidder - have you had a row with anyone on ebay recently?

I think you do is when you list an item. I know that's how you can specify to block people with unpaid strikes anyway.

I wish I could answer your question about why they do it - it's a total mystery to me too.
I have one at the moment just opened a case for it and the item is less than £5 - not exactly a bank breaking amount.
It's frustrating isn't it ? I have emailed and had zero response. If they don't want it I'd rather just know so I can do a mutual cancellation and relist to sell to someone who will pay.

You can block bidders by going into the "My Account" section then "Site Preferences" if you scroll down you will come to "Buyer Requirements" and there you can block bidders via user names and set preferences regarding how many strikes they have for non-payments and policy breaches and also regards to feedback scores.

I've had this happen too. I'm trying to be nice but I've had no response at all. I've opened a case now but it's frustrating I have to do this. If sellers were allowed to give neutral or negative feedback then I may have known to expect this from them.

me too! 2nd time this has happened in a few months. the first time i opened a non payment case but i didn't realise i could leave feedback - can i??

sold an item last Wed to a buyer who has 20+ 100% feedback. haven't heard from them and i've emailed a 2nd time requesting payment (which had been due within 48 hours from end of auction). getting fed up of this - i'll leave it 'til Wed and then open non-payment case but i also want to leave some sort of feedback - what do EBAY themselves generally do about these cases? do they threated to suspend the buyer's a/c?? i can to do a 2nd chance offer - how long would you suggest leaving 'til i do that? the 2nd buyer has no feedback at all!! and only registered in the last month!!!

you can't leave neg for a buyer, nor can you leave a negative comment on a positive rating.

No point emailing buyer to be honest, just open the dispute now and after closing on day 7 relist.

fergoose do you know what Ebay actually do about it re: the non paying buyer? really p*es me off that when you press the "confirm bid" button you're entering a contract and then you decide not to pay when winning the item and it appears that Ebay don't do an awful lot about it.

its all about the buyer these days it seems - i'm going to start using Gumtree a lot more ..........

they issue them with a strike. I think after 3 in 6 months they get account restrictions, then maybe booted off.

I have a buyer claiming not to receive an item today, and I have no way of knowing as sellers can't leave f.back stating item not received claim. eBay hardly seems worth the hassle any more to be honest.

i have a theory that sometimes a non-paying winner is trying to/going to sell the same item as you, so wants your one out the picture...they can keep you hanging on for payment ages afterall, meanwhile their item is selling like hotcakes...just a theory. either that or they just love the thrill of winning an auction too much, the sick perverts.
