Need help with my Binge Eating

I've had enough now and not sure what to do. I'm definitely a binge eater and I've tried every diet going but they aren't working in the long run. Don't want to start another diet as I don't believe they actually work, they make you think differently about food and make you feel guilty if you eat the wrong food. I want to seek medical advice now but worried I'll be laughed at. Anyone had experience with this and what would you recommend?
Thanks

Hi carol - please do go to your GP as your first step in getting help. I'm very confident that they won't laugh at you. It's a more common problem than you'd realise and there's lots of help out there you can access.

Also, it's fantastic that you realise that diets aren't helping - they really aren't! Try to eat regular, balanced meals when you can - any sense of being deprived is what is probably causing the binges in the first place.

Books I'd recommend reading alongside GP / other support are:

  • Brain over Binge, Kathryn Hansen
  • Overcoming Binge Eating, Christopher Fairburn

Many BED sufferers on here have reported successful recovery or at least easing of symptoms as a result of following their recommendations. You can do it!

Thanks for your messages, think I will go to the doctors, I'll wait till the school summer holidays when I'm not working and I can really get to grips with it.
