Hello, I am moving in with my cousin for a few days, she is in labour with her first child right now, but has a set child who I will be caring for .

The child was concieved by donor egg. I had't given it any thought at all, tbh, and assumed that after the conception point, everything else was just as normal.

Now I've heard from her mum that she had extra care in pregnancy because it was a donor egg.

I didn't know that happened

Now I'm wondering what else I don't know about giving birth via a donor egg, so am looking for anyone who can tell me anything about what to expect today, and over the next few days.

Any experiences very welcome, thank you

What a kind thing you're doing! It sounds like her mum has inadvertantly worried you a bit, but don't panic!! Therea few things where the risk during a donor egg pregnancy is slightly higher (e.g. high blood pressure, low birth weight), so that may be why your cousin's pregnancy has been monitored a bit more closely. Also, depending on why she was using donor eggs in the first place, there may be some other pregnancy risk factors (for example, if she's a little older). Broadly speaking, though, there's nothing inherently notable about the physical aspects of a donor egg pregnancy. She may be having some complicated emotions about using donor eggs, but once baby arrives a lot of those will most likely subside.

Basically, just be yourself, be there for her and let her feel and experience whatever she's feeling and experiencing without judgement, and you'll be great. Good luck to your cousin!

I received a donor egg but because I can’t compare the pregnancy or birth to any other one, I don’t think I’ll be much help.

I can tell you that I ended up having scans every fortnight due to possible growth concerns which turned out to be nothing. I also had to self inject Dalteparin sodium for a suspected blood clot on the brain & I had to resign from work because it accelerated my arthritis. I was also put in a private room on the NHS because of allergies to certain airbourne medicines.
As they’re all health-related to me, I’m not sure that’s beneficial to you.

I don’t think you get any extra-special ‘treatment’ during birth/labour. I suspect there is a possible issue elsewhere with the pregnancy that would mean she had ‘extra care’.

Sorry my son pressed post! I would recommend a clinic as they match your characteristics too.

@cutesbabasmummy how long did you have to wait? Would you be willing to share what clinic you used? I am just researching options at the moment.
