Sorry if this has been exhausted but I'm looking for recent experiences and we don't know where to start, there is so much too much information out there.
DH and I want to start our family but due to my age (45) and his genetics we've agreed that the best option for us is to use donor egg and donor sperm.
I'd like to know what experiences other mumsnetters in similar situations have had. Where do you start? UK? Europe? How do you decide?
We would want to be honest and open with any DC on their start in life so anonymity isn't our concern, in fact it would probably be better if we could tell him/her about their genetic background.
Using family or a friend is not an option we would consider.
Thanks in advance.

For me (single lady with old and crappy eggs) I've gone with being an egg-share recipient (plus donor sperm, obvs). I like that it helps someone else, and I'd prefer to have treatment in the UK if possible since then it would be non-anonymous at age 18 (I'd also want to be open with any child about their origin). That said, I'm somewhat open to going to Europe and using donor embryos if I don't succeed here, but not all countries will treat single women so I'm a bit more limited there.

Good luck, whatever you decide!

You can look up all the UK clinics that recruit egg donors on the HFEA website. www.hfea.gov.uk/choose-a-clinic/clinic-search/

The Donor Conception Network is another good place to start for information and where you can talk to others who have had children using egg donation.

The waiting lists are short in many UK clinics, e.g. CARE clinics, Manchester Fertility, Lister, London Egg Bank etc and there are agencies like Altrui and New LIfe. You might want to have a look at the NGDT website (National Gamete Donation Trust)?

If you are going abroad, one thing to bear in mind is that you may like to choose a clinic that gives as much information on the donor as possible for your child?

This is worth a read?

Good luck! I have twins from donor embryo in Spain who are 11 if you have any questions.

Thanks, this is helpful.
What clinics did you both use/are using? Happy to DM if it feels too personal to discuss on here.

Hi,
I went to IVI Valencia, but my children only have the age and blood group of their donors, so other Spanish clinics do give more information and have the same success rates.

Best,
C

Hi
I went to a branch of CARE in the UK for an egg donor - this was at a time when there was a shortage of donors. It was all quite straightforward and we found the care and treatment to be very good. We did not care about waiting for a so-called 'match' - i.e. someone who 'looked like me'. I had considered Spain because you get to have all the eggs from one donor (rather than sharing them with another recipient) but the fact that you cannot have any identifying information about the donor in Spain was the clinching factor as other posters have said. My child is now 11. The chances of conceiving with donor egg were around 55% as compared to the less than 3% I was told I had with my own eggs due to losing an ovary/poor ovarian reserve.
DCN has lots of information and support offered too.
Wishing you all the best with it.

Another IVI (Alicante) success here. Donor sperm & donor egg. Just like Carajillo stated, they matched bloods to me & DH. They did also go on hair type (curly) height and skin tone but not eye colour as this apparently has never been proven to be genetic.

Like Compschools said, the eggs feom ylur designated donor are just for you. No-one else will receive them.

Can’t recommend IVI highly enough.

Hello @Stobbit, I have had a successful pregnancy/birth using donor eggs. I was also 45 when I conceived through a clinic in the Czech Republic. They were absolutely awesome. I still have four high quality embryos stored there and am considering doing another transfer next year. They also do complete donor embryos which they already have on hand and it is waaaaay cheaper than UK (or NZ where I live). I think its about 1500 euros for a frozen embryo transfer (its PGD tested as well) through them. They were so professional and they do about thousands of IVF/donor cycles per year. Can thoroughly recommend. I had gone through two (very expensive) donor cycles here in NZ with nothing to show for it and first time with them, boom! Am happy to discuss or to DM about it. The clinic is called Reprofit. I actually went through a UK company called Your IVF Journey (Becky Saer) who organised everything for me as I was coming from so far away. It cost about 350 pounds for her but was worth it as I got in quicker than if I'd been on general waiting list. From now on though for further transfers I can just contact them directly. They have english speakers there and are very helpful. Good luck!!
