Hi everyone very new to all the terminology so I'm just going to say it. I'm going to be getting an egg implanted in August thanks to the help of an egg donor. I would love to hear stories/experiences of what I should expect, what I could do to help the process, how to prepare before/after and general stories of success. My husband and I are excited but still trying to stay grounded in case it doesn't work. It has happened all quite quickly

My main tip for embryo transfer is to practice having a 'comfortably full' bladder, because as far as I'm concerned there's no such thing! Good luck with it.

The best advice I was given was to not do anything that I would regret if it didn't work out - I'd already given up caffeine and alcohol, was eating healthily and exercising regularly, but the clinic told me to take it easy. A negative test at the end of the 2ww is awful, and it's much worse if you're torturing yourself with "what ifs".

Having said that, I also don't believe that there is anything you can do that will actually affect the outcome. Otherwise drug addicts / unhealthy people / people that don't want children would never get pregnant!

In my case I was ready to give up trying (after 6 rounds of treatment in total between me and my (female) DP), and spent most of my last 2ww angry and upset because I was so convinced it hadn't worked again and I was furious at how unfair it all was. The positive pregnancy test was a complete surprise.

Thank you for all your advice xx Persipan I'm not looking forward to that bladder full bit lol. rogue1234 I can't imagine how hard/unfair it has been for you, I'm pleased that it has worked. How far along are you? We're so excited, we want to do all the right things. I've given up alcohol, trying to lose a little weight and maybe try some sort of exercise. I've been told to drink 2 litres of water.

My success story has just been shouting "Tickle me Mummy!/ No stop it!" on repeat! He's 30 months now. He was our second go at icsi ivf in Alicante. I stopped drinking for 5 months before but the night before our second transfer I had a double g and t and a huge sangria! The disappointment when it doesn't work is soul destroying. I had a feeling it wouldn't work the first time as it was a day 3 embryo. Luckily 2 made it to day 5 and then we used one of those to make our little boy. Also prepare for bleeding- I had massive bleeds at 6 and 8 weeks and we thought it was all over and carried on bleeding on and off to 14 weeks. Apparently this is more common with donor conception. Also donor egg pregnancy has a higher risk of pre eclampsia so make sure you get it on your notes. Best of luck xxx

Thank you cutesbabasmummy I've stopped drinking for a few months now and hoping to start eating a little healthier. I didn't know about the bleeding I'm sure at the first sight of blood I'd think the same. I've heard stories of it working first time and others taking several times. At the moment I'm staying very positive and hopeful as everything has been going our way and has been so fast in happening as if it's just meant to be, I could know as soon as start of September 🙊🤰🏻

Hi youngdollhopes37 , i would advice you not to smoke and drink before going to that journey, its just the first step and you will be given enough instructions to follow by your doctors, eat healthy keep yourself active and try yoga and its not just the physical well being that's important but also the mental, stay strong ,saty happy and things will fall in place!

My first IVF was failed on fertilization stage. I know it could be very hard to accept. But I didn't gave up and tried again after 8 month. I'm glad that I was so brave because now I'm on 7th weeks pregnancy! Sure, I have to be carefull all this time. Specially my doctor told that birth may be severe. I already love my baby, this gives me confidence that everything will be fine.

Just an update...... we've got 4 out of 7 eggs ready for transfer and it's been changed to tomorrow morning 😊 Feeling nervous any tips for after transfer?

Just chill! We sat by the pool in our hotel for the afternoon. It was lush! Do you know what stage the embryos are? Day 3 or 5? How many are you having transferred? X

Day 5 tomorrow and I think 2 starting to get nervous but good sign that the 4 out of 7 are continuing to remain thriving 😉

Day 5 is great. Our son was a day 5. We had a previous cycle with a day 3 that failed. We only got two to day 5 out of 8 eggs so you are doing well! X

We had two remaining eggs. Both aa eggs had one implanted and froze other now just to relax and wait.

The 2ww is a killer! Our UK clinic said not to take a test. I went to the clinic to have my bloods done and I don't know what got into me but I stopped on the way home and got a Clearblue digital. I took it that lunchtime and it came up as 2 - 3 weeks pregnant! I nearly fell off the toilet! I had some symptoms that made me think I was pregnant but I still didn't believe it until the clinic range me the following morning.

At the moment I've got cramps etc and I've read that it can be a good sign after first few days so I'm hoping they continue (never thought I would ever wish for cramps) off work for another week 🙂

Tonight I had some spotting taking it as a positive and hoping it's good sign that the egg has implanted. Has this happened anyone else?
