Hi, so I have told my husband of 8 years that I am unhappy and want to separate, he has admitted he is also unhappy but he isn’t to happy about the idea of separating ...where do I even start...we have one gorgeous daughter, jointly own our property which is mortgaged and a little bit of savings. Can anyone point me in the right direction please.

My partner and I separated after 23 years together. He sorted everything by way of me and our son would stay in the house and he would contribute towards things and it worked put we did that for 2 years before him and his girlfriend bought me out and i moved in with a new partner.
We were very honest and straight forward for with our son who was 10 at the time. We told him we didnt love each other anymore but we loved our son more than anything and he was the most important thing in all this. Our son took it really well .
We have always been amicable throughout and that I think makes a huge difference. My ex rented for then2 years and actually it was the best thing for all of us. Our son had 2 bedrooms , 2 birthdays , 2 Christmas days and is a lot happier than what he was when we were together I think.
If we couldn't afford to do.what we did then we would have sold the house and split everything but we were lucky enough to last there for 2.years.

Thank your both for your replies, very helpful. I’m really hoping he will be amicable as I feel there is no need not to be...was hoping to speak about it tonight but he isn’t responding and locked himself away in another room!
