House valuation for mediation

Can anyone who has been through similar help please.
We need to get house valued to decided if he can buy me out or if we need to sell and both move. Valuation needed so we can both get mortgage offers. Ideally I will be looking to buy in same area.

Will Estate agents do the valuation for free in these circumstances? How much will they ask about why you are getting it valued? Feeling a bit fragile about it all and don't really want to divulge my life story to them or break down in tears!

Just tell them you are considering selling and looking for a valuation. It's not a lie but you may sell or just sell your half. Worked for us.

Estate agents technically don't give a valuation, just a market estimate. If you're happy to go with that, then there's no need to get a surveyor in.

Thanks both. Feeling anxious about it all but you're right, it's not a lie.
We will get 3 so hopefully that will be good enough without a surveyor as long as we both agree.
