My soon to be ex-husband has suddenly stopped contributing to bills (we both own the home etc), we still have financial responsibilities to until the house has sold and he wont reply to my messages about paying bills etc

Stress!

I’m guessing by the fact he’s not replying to messages that he’s moved out? In which case no he should not be contributing to bills. He should be paying half the mortgage if it’s being split accordingly or you pay it all and take that back once it’s sold.

By share do you mean lives in the same house as you still?

Do you have a legal agreement that says he will cover bills until the house is sold?

If he isn't living in the house but is on the mortgage agreement then he morally should be paying towards the mortgage as you are both liable for it.

If he is living in the house then he should morally be paying towards his half of the bills,

Unfortunately you can't make him pay for bills whether he is living there or not.
But if you have proof that he hasn't paid what he normally pays you could try and get it added on to your part of the financial settlement but that could make it all drag on for years and the only people that win then are the lawyers.

We take turns in sharing the house, we are both on the mortgage - we have always paid the bills together

I am in the same boat, my DH has now luckily left but I haven’t had any contribution to mortgage or bills for 7months now. I can just about afford it, but I will be bringing it up in financial settlement to address when the house is sold (no time soon though)
Amazingly he still had money for his “important” expenses and a pub..

It was incredibly stressful at the time so sending you hugs
Are all the bills as your joint? It helped that some were in my DH sole name so I just ignored them (and I knew he was not paying)
