Hi everyone just looking for some feedback on DIY divorces in England. My partner had been separated for 5 years and they have a 9 year old son. The divorce is agreed by both. Just wondered re costs/timescales? Area is Northwest. Thanks Thanks

If you're in agreement and it's pretty straightforward you can do it online through the government's website. It costs £550, which you always have to pay wherever you do it - if you went through a solicitor you'd just have their fees on top. I did this, our whole divorce cost £550, plus £50 fee for consent order and about £200 with a solicitor to have the consent order drawn up (as you need a solicitor to do that). Whole process took 6 months from filing to absolute.

That's correct. Fees are £600 + whatever solicitors costs you choose to add. As I've said on the other thread, average time to decree absolute is now over one year.

Thank you both for your replies - I'm clueless when it comes to this. Is a consent order compulsory in a divorce? Thank you Thanks

The consent order isn't compulsory but it's advisable and it ensures a clean break when it comes to finances etc.
