Rough costs of divorce?

I know it's £550 to apply for divorce but how much for solicitors costs to sort out the finances (house and pension) when you are both pretty amicable?

Very amicable divorce, we wrote our own consent order, solicitor just gave advice etc. My costs were around £3500, exhs were around £2000. I intiated the divorce and my total includes the £550.

Wow that sounds like a lot tbh! I thought if it was fairly straight forward then it wouldn't be that much.

Can be done for just the £550 if you're prepared to do the form filling, as we did, and if pensions are similar for each person. Problems come if you need more information, for instance the value of pensions based on quite different earnings levels and pension scheme types.

Our pensions are completely different. I've only just started mine and it will probably be worth about 22k. His will be worth about 150k. And there is 105k equity in the house, that's worth 160k.

£5K on top of the £550 application fee for an amicable Divorce seems high, but maybe there were complicated finances to sort?

My Ex made the Divorce a contest and total costs were around £35K. About 25% of the family assets. Money I would have rather seen go to wife and child, but as I was the Respondent for the settlement I was forced to go through a 2 year process from my divorce application to Final Hearing

Sometimes I wished I lived in the UK! I spent the guts of €40,000 getting legally separated and then divorced 3 years later. That's not including what I paid my ex husband to buy him out of the house. Only for my parents helping me out I would have been in dire straits. Oh and Divorce in Ireland is never final either!!!! I'd love to write a tell all book about my experiences with the legal system in Ireland but because of the 'in-camera' rule I can't obviously. Things improved after I phoned Women's Aid and got to meet a fabulous woman working there who has helped me enormously. And saved me another small fortune too! It's not right that men can continue to abuse women and children through the legal system!
