Contact with non resident parent

I have been separated from my child’s father since she was around 18 months old due to their being domestic abuse within the relationship. He has never been a particularly attentive father even when we were together & has gradually continued to treat her like she doesn’t matter to him more and more often. She has contact with paternal family every other weekend and he turns up to see her as & when it suits him. Is there anything I can do to prevent this while still encouraging contact with the rest of his family?
