In the process of separation, very recent and still in the same house. I earn considerably more, I also take responsibility for everything pretty much (part of the issues behinf the split). Both work full time. H wants 50:50 split which I am open to.
My dilemma is around finances. He doesn't earn a lot and would qualify for tax credits. However, to do this he would need to be considered main carer. I'm not sure of the implications of this long term or what happens if he realises what's involved in 50:50 (as I suspect he will change his mind somewhere down the line) or whether I'm OK with him being main carer. If he isn't then I accept I will need to continue paying a larger share of joint costs, for example all the childcare and a joint debt, if he had tax credits he could pay towards these things, obviously no maintenance with it being 50:50.
Im leaning towards paying the greater share as childcare costs won't be this high for more than a couple of years, but wondering if I'm making too much out of the main carer aspect
