If I file for divorce after 2 years of separation...

...does the petitioner have to state reasons for the divorce?

I was under the impression that if we waited the 2 years we could just do it as long as he doesn't contest it. I'm now not so sure!?

My ex and I waited two years (was actually 3 by the time we got our act together) and there was no requirement to state anything other than separation. If you go to the .gov website there will be the forms and guidance notes available for free download that will explain it all. I don't think there's been any change recently (we split in 2012 and divorced in 2015).

Wishing you all the best - it's a tough one but can be done fairly amicably.

It is still the same as long as you both consent. I am in the process of this currently. I am using a solicitor but I think there are lots of online cheap versions or DIY

Hello I am half way thro this process. I used an on line service which cost £299 including the consent part. They have been very helpfull and today they advisd me that my Nisi will be granted in 7 days.
They email the forms with tips on how to complete. There is a lot of printing off to do so a good printer with Inc is a must
Good luck

You only have to state the dates you separated and decided the marriage was over at the petition stage. When the respondent indicates consent by returning the acknowledgement of service, you have to fill in a form to apply for decree nisi. The form asks for the dates again and to confirm the address you last cohabited at and all of both your addresses since. If you had any period of reconciliation it also asks you about that.
